In this article I’ll show you 4 ways to align with the power of Summer to make healthy lifestyle changes a cinch.
Being mindful of Nature’s ebb and flow aligns us with the ecological forces that turn tides, and move mountains, until living in biological trust & comfort… comes with ease.
Spring Season Meditations 2018
It is the beginning of Mother Nature’s New Year. And therefore a reset button is being turned in the earth. The equinox gives us a cue that allegorical seeds should now be sown. Heeding this, we can choose with full awareness which fruits this year’s labour will produce. I am in Thailand at the moment and it is smokey as heck! Thai farmers burn their fields—in the traditional agricultural manner—preparing them for next year’s crops. If burning fields sound sinister to you, take it as an excellent example of how much we need to realign with nature’s movements.
Fire has come to be associated with devastation in modern culture, yet flame was traditionally recognized for its unparalleled rejuvenating properties. In fact, this agricultural practice is called “a prescribed burn” because it is so healthy for the fields. Sometimes natural or controlled brush fires can prevent those same forests from burning out of control, or to the ground, later. Some varieties of trees require the high heat of flame for their seeds to germinate. While we, in modernity, see fire as something we must fight. The cues given by nature can be the highest in value. Simple. Powerful. Easeful. That is how nature operates. If we tune into the environment around us, we too can navigate the creative energy behind the cycles & seasons of our lives.

Feed The Burn—Mindfully Prepare Yourself for Spring
I am definitely feeling the burn this spring season. As I get ready to launch into blogging as a professional (sign up to be a beta tester for my holistic health and wellness courses) I have to let go of some pretty constricting cultural programming. Just like the Thai farmer’s fields, I too have some unwanted sprouts taken root from seeds I caught on the wind. I’m totally embracing the burn of the season and singeing away the unwelcome freeloaders growing on my farm. Prescribe a burn for yourself. Although we have developed to culturally fear the fire, we still have the power to recognize—through our nature—the transformative properties it brings; the purification of the heat, and the nutrients left in the wake of the embers, allows us space to grow up free… and unabated… to what we truly are (our best selves).
Add Ceremony to Your Fire
The only way to make aligning with nature more powerful is to direct special attention to it. Take hot baths with Epsom salts, saunas, jacuzzis—sweat—with essential oils for your specific needs. Hot yoga is one of my favourite ways to burn off excess energy and realign with my pure self. Exfoliate. Light candles and hang out with yourself. Drink plenty of water to hydrate the parts of you which you’d like to nourish. Do any of these things with intent. If you’re into magic, do a fun full moon ritual of your choosing.
Write it out—Prompt Yourself to Get Creative
Writing down your thoughts and intentions is a truly sacred practice. William Blake claimed we write reality into existence and I pledge that if you experiment with this you will come to believe, as powerfully as I do, that he was right. Write. Whether you are at the fire phase of transformation or at the seeding sowing start, get creative by free-flowing expression. Write your wildest dreams, deepest fears, and all that you know in your heart. If you are in need of a little organization to get you started, try journalling prompts. If you’re in the fire, I really love these prompts on letting go from Writing Through Life. If exploring your true desires is the vibe you’re putting down, check out this pinterest graphic I saved (one of my favourite writing prompt lists) anytime. Not all journalling exercises are created equal. These are thoughtful and probing. Get your fire iron out!
Add Ceremony to Your Spring Equinox Meditations
Add intent by setting aside a Sunday morning to have your favourite cup of tea, practice some yoga, then do some mindful journalling. Feel like performing some magic? Lighting the written word on fire is deeply ritualistic; offer your joys and sorrows up to being manifested or otherwise transformed. As with any magic, the intent behind the acts are key. So make it special to you. It might be nice to combine some practices by doing this by candlelight in a bath full of Epsom salts & oils!
Get Clear with Yourself—Set Your Sights on Your Unique Horizons
Getting clear on your goals is a necessary constant. I’ve found myself again and again during the past two years (since I’ve graduated and dramatically changed my life course) recalibrating—writing and rewriting my wants and needs down. I worried at times that it was a sign I was unfocused. I feared it was a waste of time, or that I was procrastinating, because it seemed like I was writing the same things again and again. A thoroughly researched book on “High Performers” however, showed me that constantly ‘checking in’ with yourself and goals is a process high achievers almost always employ. (Listen to High Performance Habits here for free.) I realized that our goals (destiny) are so unique to us as individuals, that the only way to keep ourselves on our clear course is to keep the dialogue open with ourselves. Check in with you. Again and again. Even if you ‘know’ what you want. Recalibrate.
Add Ceremony to Your Personal Growth
Make checking in with yourself special. Make it a bullet journal! Get some nice markers, a cute book, or some rad stationary & office supplies if that’s your thing—whatever floats your boat, use the knowledge of what excites you to lift your spirit and set sail!
You Can Only Improve Upon that which You Measure—Keep Accountable
I used to think that being self-employed made staying accountable in my work especially difficult. When I started getting involved in other people’s goals, it dawned on me that we are only ever accountable to ourselves anyhow! Sure, you may have to show up for work at 9am, whereas I can show up whenever I want, technically, but how we show up is as much up to you as it is to me. Plus, you most likely got yourself that job, and how well/where you go with that position is entirely in your hands. We are all in the same boat. Even at work!
Ironically, that’s when keeping myself accountable got very, very easy. When I realized we literally need to constantly keep ourselves accountable for everything, regardless of being our own boss or having many other people to answer to, the pressure I thought was unique to my situation lifted and I got proactive. I figured out ways to keep my trajectory pointed towards the vision of my ideal life & self through my daily actions—I found ways to blend keeping records & routine to free me from anxiety and stay highly productive.
I use hacks like having a morning routine that gives me energy, sets my mindset for the day, and I perform daily self-care rituals that I know keep me and my body on track. I’m actually designing products that help people do the very same thing, achieve their goals sustainably, and will be looking for beta testers who will get these harmonizing products for next to nothing. You can sign up for this here (just choose one of my mailing lists where I share my latest ponderings & research on health & wellness, spirituality or relationships).
Add Ceremony to Your Routine
Again, make keeping records & routine fun. Get creative with a bullet journal—these goal tracker ideas are very good! I also have really liked using an app called Strides. It’s free and gives you many options to track different kinds of goals & progress too. I’m absolutely loving my day planner now that I have lots and lots of little tasks! But in university I, along with every other high achievers I hung out with, made semester-long lists of projects and major due dates. These are all different examples of ceremonial record keeping and routine. Experiment with one or a few of these suggestions if you’re looking to up your accountability game. You never know what will work until you try it, and you cannot improve upon what you do not measure. Personalize your accountability, and increase your inspiration, by choosing ways to log your progress that you are drawn to. The compass drawing you to whats right is always within. Follow glimmers of excitement.
Be Mindfully Aware—Assess the Current Conditions and Act Accordingly
If nothing else, be mindful—always. When you look, try to really see. If you are here, you may as well be present to truly feel.
This Spring Equinox starts on a mercury retrograde making all of this internal work I suggested above very, very important to the season. Here’s a more in-depth article on how to make the energy of mercury retrograde work in your favour. Miracles are bonafide; they happen simply, daily. Through awareness of ourselves, and how we align with the natural forces at play in the universe, we may begin to not only notice the miracles, but create them. The time is nigh to clear the path before you and till the soil for what’s to come. Plant your seeds. Get ready to grow.
I hope you have an amazing New Year. I wish you all the best in your seed sowing. And if you’d like to join me on this journey of personal growth and discovery, I’d love to have you! Thanks for reading.

Peace and so much LL <3
It’s that time again, kids. MERCURY RETROGRADE. It’s a time to look inward and finish up tasks. It’s a time to listen to Radiohead and contemplate who we think we are and where we’d like to go. But hold up, it isn’t time to go there (to our ultimate destinations) just yet!
Mercury retrograde gets a bad wrap because modern society isn’t very well-versed in the power of receptivity. Merc Rx isn’t intrinsically a bad thing, but… if you fight it… it will win. Reality forces us at this time to slow down and recap; if we can manage to embrace that, we harness the potent power available in vulnerability & surrender.
We live our lives in a balance between movement and stillness, doing and being, giving and accepting. There is a time to fire up your Yang energy and get things done. Now is a time to relish in your Yin energy and heal things undone.

A Bit About Mercury Retrograde & Astrology in General
There’s a a bunch of info on the internet about communication mishaps and delays in travel (I have some stories, let me tell you) during Merc Rx, and there is also a plethora of opinions claiming astrology is *obviously* bullocks and deserves no credence. I won’t waste your time going back over these things or refuting them. (I personally give SERIOUS inner questioning about what we are being taught is ‘obviously’ fallacy). But I will recap that a retrograde draws us inwards and down, and astrology is an ancient science, being knowledgeable enough to go with this flow will be highly advantageous—(I’m reminding myself of a translation of the Tao Ti Ching rn, but) it’s true!
I also want to say that Mercury isn’t ‘doing’ anything to planet Earth. Astrology is an art of perceiving signs in the universe, and recognizing patterns within the story which ‘whatever powers that be’ are telling with the matter around us. Mercury isn’t doing anything. The energy is shifting and this is made apparent by seeing/predicting what Mercury does. We’ve entered a phase of energy the universe goes through, we can TELL this by watching what Mercury is doing. So how do we survive this transit, telling us to slow down and receive, in a society that is always pushing us to ‘go’?
Thrive this Mercury Retrograde!
Rule #1: Be Patient with Yourself
The theme of your mercury retrograde will show itself to you in the couple of weeks preceding a retrograde, the retrograde itself is when the ‘work’ starts. The work involved in this kind of transit is usually the giving-up-control/holding-space type of action (even though it’s kind of the opposite of an action). No matter what your personal tensions or aspirations are, be patient with them. Acknowledge thoughts & feelings then ruminate on them—they are formless at this point in time as they are meant to be. Let your reactions come and go, give yourself permission to feel and think whatever comes up to see if it sticks or goes. Hold space for yourself.
Rule #2: Be Patient with Others
In the same vein, everyone else’s inner dialogues and themes will also require a safe space. Others will be sorting through stuff too. They may mean exactly what they say, or their actions might be just a release of something old and unneeded. They are experiencing the same mercury retrograde. What they express may be something they’ve been holding in, or perhaps a release of something that no longer serves them (or both). These expressions can be both positive and negative. We have a tendency to latch onto the ‘positive’ in this day and age (our rudimentary understanding of the power our will has made this ‘positive thought’ cult craze, which is weird and gets deluded), but all expressions at this time require space. For better or worse, allow others the time to just simply be. They’ll need that from you.
Rule #3: Don’t Judge What Comes Up
This is a time of old hurts and, conversely, old dreams too! It’s a time for finishing things up in that it calls us to remember that pattern we almost healed, that dream we forgot to pursue to its entirety, that way we wished we would be but got distracted from the follow-through. People can get inspired during a mercury retrograde, start making big plans, or feel dejected and out of sorts—this is all normal. The important part is that you hold off on making big sweeping actions of any kind whatsoever. We won’t really know what is actually what until the retrograde is finished and mercury is moving forward again. It can be a really beautiful time to just watch and give space to thought and feelings coming from unexpected places. And it’s an excellent time to plan, plan, plan. Or finish that thing you’ve been really wanting to (whether internal or external).
Rule #4: Self Care Self Care Self Care
Take time to yourself. Self Care often means making good decisions for you longterm. You have to do you first. Regardless of what others may need from you, you’ll be better at giving it if you’re charged up and comfortable. Make sure your own energy is top priority, then go save the world with your openness. The rules of mercury retrograde are in and down. Take a bubble bath and listen to some tunes. Journal. Write down goals, feelings, remembrances, play instruments, have quiet nights with people you trust, Netflix binge. Act in ways that benefit you longterm. Forget today—think of the big game. Chill. Chill hard. Relax your facial muscles consciously, and don’t drink too much or do anything in excess. Partying can get weird. Just do you.
Rule #5: Lean into the Discomfort
This is a saying in social work. It’s a mainstay for those in the healing professions because… well… simply—this is how we heal. Point blank. “You have to feel it to heal it” is another mainstay of psychology. Basically, your mind to your spirit is like blood flow to your body—it will heal itself if it is given what it needs to do so. Leaning into the discomfort (or the wild inspiration) opens up the blood vessels of your spirit so it can be fed and healed with the flow of energy. The best part is that you don’t need to do anything but this. No special way of thinking, no mantra, no fancy meditation—just open acknowledgement without being scared off to distraction. Distracting is, most simply, directly cutting off the flow of energy. It’s going to be ok.
Rule #6: Just Do You
It’s all Ok. Everything is going to be amazing. If you simply tap into the flow, things happen seamlessly. Accept the chill. Invite inward and downward motion into your life. Take time before speaking and offer time to process after someone else speaks to you. Make plans, but don’t act. Talk to yourself, and listen—more importantly—to those who really matter to you (including your Self).
This can be an incredible time of growth and healing. This receptive reality is not one consciously supported or taught by society since the ancients… it is a different kind of work than we are used to. But our will is all that we need to harness. The rest is natural. Allow your instincts to show you how to do the right thing.
Take care, and so much LL
2016 was a big year of endings. Luckily, everything in nature is cyclical and we can count on what comes next: a big year of beginnings! I’ve heard some of my friends wondering why 2017 hasn’t really shown up to turn their tides yet; I tell them what I’m telling you! 2017 hasn’t yet begun! The Spring Equinox is the real new year, just ask any tree.
The Spring Equinox falls on March 20th this year, early in the morn.
New Year’s Day on the Gregorian calendar is mostly arbitrary. Although it’s a solar calendar, New Years Day has nothing to do with the sun. It doesn’t follow any lunar pattern either. We’ve essentially just made up a calendar that sort of works (leap years are our way of correcting the fact that we haven’t gotten it right)! It would make sense to celebrate the new year on, say, the Winter Equinox (when the sun begins its return in the northern hemisphere) but January 1st never made any sense to me. The new year begins in the spring—you can see it all around you. Everything starts its new cycle; the plants bud, animals get frisky, people come alive out of winter hibernation. And this year especially, the planets reflect the new beginning too.
Whether or not you believe we can read signs about movements on earth by reading signs in the movements of the heavens, most people won’t argue with how unified-ly transformative 2016 was. It was a year of endings and it will be followed, of course, by a year of beginnings. But it didn’t begin in January. It didn’t even stop then.
Everything in nature takes time. Garlic that sprouts in the spring was planted in the fall. A calendar may mark a change in an hour, but even a moon takes 2 weeks to wax or wane. The 2016 energy waned into an end with the full moon lunar eclipse in February. (Lunar eclipses normally symbolize endings.) This was followed by a new moon solar eclipse 2 weeks later. (Solar eclipses always symbolize beginnings.) So, the new energy started to usher in here—like the breaking of dawn. And on this Spring Equinox, we can start to really get up, now that we’ve taken our time to wake up slowly, we can stretch and test our legs stepping out of bed to a new day.
If you have yet to feel 100% this 2017, or ready to tackle all of the dreams you uncovered in the dark night of 2016, you are still totally on time. Spring is just about to dawn and with it, your new year! The 2017 energy has just begun, and with it all of our fertile soil is just warming up and getting loose. So revisit those resolutions! Rethink the setting of your dreams; it’s never a waste to set them, but they may go a lot farther when the world has your back! I’ve been watching very closely because my 2016 endings were somewhat enormous, but I wouldn’t take it back because those releases made room, and fertilized the ground, for truly mammoth sprouts of a much better life for me this year! If you’re like me and you can feel a really big wonderful change coming for you too—if you’d like to join me on this journey, and we share some similar goals—I have some super amazing resources for you.
If a Better Body is your Goal
If you’ve been struggling with feeling uncomfortable in your physical body, or if feeling fantastic in your body has been a goal of yours for a little or a long time, I’ve been developing a truly unique program that will demonstrate how to shift your consciousness to just let go of extra weight—just let it drop right off of you like something you don’t need anymore. It will work for any body goal. It works by empowering you with actual wisdom (not rumours and fads), but more importantly it works by healing the relationship between You and your Self. This truly makes the best version of yourself appear effortlessly. If you’ve thought being in your best body should be a lot easier than it has been, this program is for you. And luckily, I’m giving away a free introductory workshop to the program. The introductory workshop is worth around $100, but I believe in the life-changing abilities of it so much, I wouldn’t feel comfortable keeping it away from anyone who wants or needs it. Go ahead and sign up—you won’t be asked for a credit card or any obligation. Just tell me where I can send the Intro Workshop, and it’s yours as a free gift to you from me. A little pay-it-forward good karma!
If Financial Freedom is your Goal
If getting out of the rat race has been a goal of yours—if you’ve ever considered making money blogging, from home, without having to log hours for someone else to make dividends, I have another free gift! My girl Anna totally changed the game for me just before I graduated. I knew she had been working on something to share her immense knowledge (she’s so successful—it kills me and is so ridiculously inspiring) on how to make money online, but I had NO idea her training could apply to me! A humanities major who was into research?! Making cash on the internet?! And helping people while I do it!!?? She says everyone has something to give. Now I think she’s right. I can’t express how grateful I am to her for showing me that financial freedom was right here available to me for years (I didn’t have any idea). I still would have no idea if it wasn’t for her course and I owe it to you to offer you her free training to give you a glimpse into another life changer for the Equinox! If making money easily, for yourself, while helping people is your thing of course… 😀
I hope this article finds you well/carves a little pathway to an even better place!
Happy New Year!
